My approach to art making and teaching.

It's my belief that the best art is a good marriage between craft and magic. Some art is very slick and well crafted, but may be lacking in individual personal content. Other artwork may be strong In the "magic" of personal content but weak in craftsmanship. If I had to choose between these two, I would select the latter. So called, "Outsider" artists who make Images because "God" tells them to, fall into this catagory. The artifacts of "primitive" cultures come the closest to a true art by merging sophisticated craftsmanshfp with a deep and intuitive understanding of the natural world. In my teaching I try to stress the importance of expressing transformed personal experience while developing and using a solid understanding of the elements and principles of art and design.
