Purpose

The Ceramics Club of Mendocino College sponsors one or two student scholarships each semester to support and encourage those who bring outstanding ability and commitment to the field of ceramics. The amount of the scholarship is $75, and is in the form of a credit at the college bookstore, to help offset the cost of books, clay and other ceramics course materials.

Eligibility

You must be enrolled in a Mendocino College ceramics course now and next semester.

Application Procedure

• Complete the Application at the bottom of this page.
• Select two ceramic pieces that are representative of your past work.
• Prepare a brief statement about your work (an artist's statement).
• Obtain a photograph of yourself (any ceramics instructor can photograph you with the club's camera).
• Give the application, art work, artist's statement, and photo to any ceramics instructor no later than the first Tuesday in November (for a Spring scholarship) or the third Tuesday in April (for a Fall scholarship).

Jurying Procedure

Your art work, artist's statement, and photograph will be displayed in the Ceramics Club display case for at least a week. During that time, all currently enrolled ceramics students will be allowed to cast one vote for each scholarship to be awarded. Whenever possible, the number of scholarships will always be less than the number of applicants, to preserve the competitive nature of the procedure. If four or more applications are received, two scholarships will be given; if one to three applications are received, one scholarship will be given. If only one application is received, 50 percent or more of the votes cast must approve.

Web bonus: Each scholarship winner will be required to provide six ceramic pieces for display during the first two weeks of the scholarship semester. The ceramics department staff will photograph each such exhibit and arrange for it to be shown on the Web.
