THEATRE ARTS
Associate of Arts Degree:
 Theatre Emphasis

The Theatre Arts major leads to the Associate in Arts degree and prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution.  After completing a degree program in theatre, a student may be qualified for work as a teacher, actor, director, lighting designer, set designer, cosume designer, stage manager, carpenter, electrician, stitcher, stage hand, radio / television announcer, playwright,  or theatre critic.  

REQUIRED COURSES
AA DEGREE IN THEATRE (Theatre Option)

The following requirements are for all theatre majors (dance and theatre emphases):

Theatre Arts 210 Beginning Acting  3 units
Theatre Arts 225 Production - Performance 1 units
Theatre Arts 230 Modern Dance, Beginning  2 units

plus 2 additional performance units selected from:

Music 220 Opera Theatre - Performance 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 220 Acting - Performance 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 260 Dance Performance 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 225 Production - Performance 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 262 Dance For Musical Theatre 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 265 Dance Repertory:  Apprentice 1-3 units
Theatre Arts 266  Dance Repertory 1-3 units

 

plus at least 2 additional units selected from:

Theatre Arts 215 Stagecraft 3 units
Theatre Arts 216 Stage Lighting 3 units
Theatre Arts 217 Costume Construction 2 units

 

The following additional requirements are for the emphasis in theatre:

plus the 7 additional units selected from:

Theatre Arts 105 Community Based Ensemble 3 units
Theatre Arts 118 Introduction to Directing 3 units
Theatre Arts 202 Intro to Dramatic Literature 3 units
Theatre Arts 209 Improvisation 2 units
Theatre Arts 211 Intermediate Acting 3 units
Theatre Arts 212 The Actor's Voice 1 unit
Theatre Arts 213 Acting Styles 3 units

Total units required for the major:                                                      20

* Engish 225 (Shakespeare) is strongly recommended for all individuals who are majoring in Theatre.  Additional courses in dance (THE 231, 234, 238, 239, 242, or 243) and singing (MUS 230 & 231) are also recommended for students with an acting focus.
