2010 Message from the President
on Program Review:
Welcome back to Spring semester!
This year, we are inaugurating a much-revised
Program Review process with several new features designed
to make it a more effective process for everyone.
New Forms
We will be using a new set of Program Review forms (see forms
to the right) which have been developed over the past 18 months
by the Program Review Task Force, with considerable input
from across the college. The forms for Part I have been designed
to provide better information to the committees (e.g. Staffing,
Technology, etc.) that review requests and make recommendations
to PBC. The forms for Part II have been designed to assist
programs with the evaluation on their progress toward reaching
previous goals and objectives and setting new goals and objectives.
New Schedule
Yippee! Program Reviews are not due until April 15! (And you
may not file an extension like you can with your tax return!)
As in the past, each program is required to
complete Part I of Program Review each year. Because the revised
Part II asks for greater detail from programs, we are instituting
a four-year schedule for completing Part II (see attached).
In years 1 through 3, a smaller group of programs (both Instructional
and non-Instructional) will be scheduled to complete Part
II. This year is Year 1 on the schedule (the blue column).
If your program is listed in that column, you are scheduled
to complete Part II; if you are not listed in that column,
do not complete Part II. The responses from Instructional
programs are reviewed by EAP which will make recommendations
to PBC; responses for non-Instructional programs will be reviewed
by the Vice Presidents acting as a committee.
In the fourth year, no program (unless requested
by PBC) will be doing Part II of Program Review. That year
will be devoted primarily to reviewing and revising the Educational
Master Plan, based upon the prior three years’ Program
Review.
New Methods
It looks like Program Review will finally move from paper
to the web. We have contracted with Governet, the firm that
is completing Curricunet, to transfer our Program Review to
a web-based format. We hope to have it available this year;
stay tuned for details and in the meantime, use the attached
MS Word forms.
Reminder: Excel spreadsheets
with data for Instructional programs are available on the
Institutional Research page of the Staff Intranet in a folder
labeled “Program Review 2009”. Copies of the attachments
are in a folder named “Program Review Documents Revised”.
Finally, Charlie Duffy will be scheduling workshops
available to any reviewer who wants to have a “walk
through” of the new forms. These will be held in February
and March and be announced in “District Announcements”.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, you may contact
Charlie at cduffy@mendocino.edu.
Thanks for taking part in Program Review and
have a great Spring semester!
Kathy Lehner
