The college's department of Health, Human Services and Public Safety Programs strives to:

• Provide students with opportunities to fulfill their academic needs, enrich the quality of their lives and develop the competencies needed to function productively and responsibly in society;
• Provide quality educational programs and support services to meet the needs of a diverse and ever-changing community; and
• Maintain an environment that values diversity and emphasizes and encourages teaching, lifelong learning, scholarship, creativity, critical and independent thinking, and social responsibility.

The department offers a variety of courses that are academic and/or occupational in nature. Certain academic courses meet college graduation requirements and many are transferable to four-year colleges and universities.

Occupational courses may also meet graduation and transferability requirements. Occupational courses are generally part of a series of courses that constitute a specific program (such as the Paramedic, Alcohol and Other Drug Studies, or Administration of Justice programs).

Continuing Education Units
Many of the department's academic and occupational courses are useful for those who wish to continue their professional education. Continuing Education Units are available to Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatric Technicians, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Alcohol and Other Drug Counselors.
